The first comment I've ever received in this blog was in November. I was asked which coloring pen I would recommend that wouldn't ghost on 90 GSM paper. I recommended the Tombow ABT Brush Pen line because it did well for me in the past.
But lo and behold, a new favorite comes home to my arms: the Crayola SuperTips Washable Markers! So before I polarize you or anything (😅), let's begin the review to see how it actually fares!
Let's begin. ♥
THE LAYOUT
These Washable Super Tips Markers are by American company Crayola®, which we've all been pretty much introduced. 😅 What makes them special is their versatile tip that lets you draw thick and thin lines without breaking a sweat. These are also washable from skin and most clothing and fabrics, so it's slated to be perfect for both kids and adults to play with.
Each marker is dressed in white plastic body (silver Crayola® Super Tips label embedded in the middle) with a snap on cap that corresponds to the ink's shade.
I got the set the set of 20, but this line has up to sets of 100, 120. I can link you to where you can check the list of colors, but here's the colors from mine:

PEN-TO-PAPER TEST
Let's see how these markers fare against different GSM papers. I prepared an 80gsm and a 100gsm test to have better gauge:

Findings
- They don't ghost or bleed in single strokes, so that's pretty impressive since they're pigmented. But also, I think credit goes to Papernotes paper quality too because they never disappoint.
- Upon coloring, the markers may produce glaring ghosting, even bleeding when you really press on it for a few more building strokes. So I probably wouldn't be recommending it if you're using a 100GSM paper or lower.

Findings
- There's still ghosting but very minimal. And I think the bleeding (encircled on photo) is because I was pressing on too hard before swiping the marker tip.
- Based from my experience, it will definitely ghost a lot more obvious (even bleed) if you pile on the strokes, so be careful. :)
YELLOW LEGAL PAD TEST
pros
- AFFORDABLE. At around PHP 7 a pop, the Crayola Super Tips are a total bang for your buck.
- GLIDES SMOOTHLY. Okay, this slides on like butter, I'm not even kidding. I have no idea what science is behind it, but the marker glides on smoothly in thin or thick papers.
- SUPER PIGMENTED. Each marker is really pigmented that there's not much of a need to pile on strokes to make the colors pop. Well, we can always trust on Crayola on pigmentation alright. 😌
- THICK OR THIN LINES. The marker tip is designed so you can make thick or thin lines without needing to shift gears. I think that's pretty nifty, and it's also a money-saver since it's like buying two types of markers in one.
- A BUNCH OF SHADES AVAILABLE. This Crayola line has 120 shades, which is a lot. Though I appreciate that you can buy it in smaller sets, even singles in some Shopee shops.
cons
- INACCURATE COLORS. While doing swatches, I noticed that the shades don't really match its label. For example, the maroon looks more red, and the red looks a lot more like fuchsia.
- MAY GHOST OR BLEED. The product description promises no bleeding, but I did experience bleeding (as mentioned a couple times in this review) especially with thinner types of paper.
- NO LABELS ON MARKER. Let's say you bought a bigger set with a couple of shades for each color family. It would be difficult to see which shade you picked out since there's no label on the marker itself. Even when I was working on the shade swatches, I had to retrieve the box to see their shades to make sure I'm labelling it right.

RECOMMENDATION
If you ask me, these markers deserve the hype they get on TikTok. They're really good for those trying out calligraphy or bullet journaling and those who are in tight budget.
